As computers and the software that runs on them become more powerful and more complex, the number of vulnerabilities in these devices grows. To combat this, manufacturers are now including security in their products. One of the most important steps you can take to improve your computer’s security is to remove unnecessary components.
For the most part, your processor is not something that you have to worry about removing. Although there are some cases where a manufacturer uses a processor that has a known vulnerability (not to mention some good old fashioned free software (aka. “rootkits”) that may attempt to hide problems), for the most part, your processor doesn’t need to be removed. However, if you want to be 100% sure that your processor is secure, it is best to use a clean install of Windows. (It’s also better to use a clean install of Windows than to use a legitimate copy of Windows that someone else has installed because it makes the process of cleaning up easier later on.)
If your processor is on the market, then I recommend that you not install any security software on it at all. Security software can be useful, but there are always going to be some bugs and flaws. There’s no sense in having a processor that is vulnerable to attack when you could be leaving it completely vulnerable. I’d rather have my processor on the market be safe than have it be unsafe. be359ba680
